THERE were some happy campers in Marysville last week when the state government handed over $300,000 for further works on the Marysville Caravan Park.
Member for Seymour Ben Hardman said the grant to Murrindindi Shire Council would help cement confidence that ‘business is back’ in Marysville.
He said grant for the Marysville Caravan Park Re-Establishment Project would reinstate fire-damaged assets at Marysville Caravan Park, provide stimulus to the tourism industry and cement confidence that business is back in Marysville.
“Marysville is slowly rebuilding, businesses will gradually return and the nature it is famous for is recovering,” he said.
“In order to continue that process and prepare for the return of visitors, the town needs to be ready and able to accommodate visitors with a range of accommodation options.”
Park managers Ken and Christine Adams have welcomed the funding, which will build on improvements already made since the park re-opened in August 2009.
“We now have 20 cabins on site and 25 powered sites.
“The funding will upgrade roads, the shower block, barbecue areas and provide a playground for the children,” Ms Adams said.
“It is going to bring the park up to a modern facility that will hold its own against other big parks in the areas,” she said.
A trail network will be built along the Steavenson River to facilitate public access..
The funds were made available through the Small Towns Development Fund.
“It will make a big difference and we are hoping to have the work finished by the end of the year,” Ms Adams said.
