All smiles as centre re-opens

By Kath Gannaway
HEALESVILLE residents will have the chance to check out Healesville’s new hub of activity next week.
The former Swinburne Building adjacent to Healesville Walk shopping centre will re-open on Wednesday 3 November after a $2 million make-over.
The new building will house Yarra Ranges Council’s Community Link, Healesville Library, Swinburne University and Healesville and District Historical Society as well as providing community meeting spaces.
Yarra Ranges councillor Jeanette McRae said the facility would be a focal point for the community.
“This building is a wonderful example of how we can bring services together to better suit the community,” she said.
Yarra Ranges Council has a 30-year lease on the building from the State Government and carried out the works with funding contributions from the State and Federal governments.
Yarra Ranges Council has asked residents to come up with a name for the building which was originally the Shire of Healesville offices.
The opening will be celebrated with a children’s story time at the library on Wednesday 3 November at 11am and with a sausage sizzle and coffee cart on Saturday 6 November at 10am.
