I BOUGHT shares in the Healesville Community Bank (Bendigo Bank branch) prospectus this week because this bank will invest in what our kids and community need.
Have you considered doing it, and like me been slow to get around to it?
I know we are all busy and time poor, but we need your help now.
I am surprised that they haven’t been swamped by now. I’m told 80 per cent of those who promised to buy shares have. Would you stop and seriously consider the benefits to us all and if you can, become a shareholder?
Unless 150 locals put their hands up and invest in our community we will miss out on what Warburton have been able to harness for their community.
There’s many more folks live here than in Warby!
If you’re new to town or a recently retired local, or a business person, we need you to become one of us.
This is a real community and we belong and care for each other.
Did you know that after the bushfires the Bendigo Bank invested $330,000 in community services to aid our recovery?
I didn’t see my bank with its hand in its pocket; did yours?
It’s time to show them their investment was appreciated.
Where are all our leaders in our local businesses?
We support them, don’t we? It will be interesting to see which ones have supported the share float in the not too distant future.
Surely there are 20 local business philanthropists out there who can dig deep for a couple of thousand dollars to make this bank a reality for us.
Are there 100 locals who can buy $500 worth of shares for their children or grandchildren’s future benefit?
Remember, it’s not a donation, it’s an investment and it will pay dividends better than my bank, that’s for sure.
Imagine if there is a business angel willing to invest $10,000! I look forward to checking out the share register with some interest to see who thought supporting the community that supports them was a worthwhile community action. Don’t delay.
Gary or the (Healesville and District Community Enterprise Ltd) secretary Neil Skinner can come to your house and help you fill out the form, receipt your money and say thanks for believing in a bank which has a community conscience.
They need you to act now; by Friday, or it will be another four months extension and I am sure they’re all tired of trying to get across the line.
Become part of making (Healesville Community Bank) Bendigo Bank a Christmas present for our Healesville community and let’s show those greedy, bit banks that we appreciate a bank with its heart in the community it serves.

I NOTICE that Tammy Lobato’s election signs read “we deliver for the community etc”.
I wrote to Ms Lobato on 10 September asking her two questions: one about the hours the Warburton and Yarra Junction police stations are open and the second about the amount of revenue the Government raises from the speed cameras placed on the Warburton Highway at East Warburton.
To date I have had no acknowledgement of my letter, let alone an answer to my questions.
If Ms Lobato claims to deliver for the community, I assume she will deliver me a reply to my letter, before the election.

Music festival feast

HEALESVILLE is indeed lucky this year to host two music festivals. It may be useful though to clear up confusion that many in the town are apparently experiencing.
The inaugural, free Healesville Music Festival was organised in May this year by a collective of local musicians with a view to showcasing our considerable talent.
Despite rain necessitating a shift to the Memorial Hall it was a huge, community-bonding success and the music was excellent. Planning is already well advanced for the second festival, which will be held in March next year – as originally intended, at the Queens Park Sound Shell.
The forthcoming Music at the Healesville Track (Saturday, 20 November) is also being organised by locals – from Healesville Amateur Racing Club.
There’s a terrific line up of well known Victorian artists, but it’s worth mentioning that Yarra Valley musicians are also appearing. Ewan Cloonan (with his Union), Yarra Glen’s Bonnie Anderson and Warburton’s Dave Walker with two bands are billed.
The best kept secret, however, is that the Dukes of Despair, the Hannafords, Richie Langford and the Engine Room and TK&Rose who played at the Healesville Music Festival, plus vocal group Balladry, blues artist Shoeshine and virtuoso Yarra Glen guitarist David Knight will also be appearing.
Don’t miss them on 20 November. They’re all part, as are Healesville’s two festivals, of the current explosion of musical excellence in the Yarra Valley.
