Still sounding divine

– Mara Pattison-Sowden
BLONDIE and the Pretenders rocked the grapes off the vines on Saturday night.
Rochford Winery was at full capacity with original fans of the ’80s rockers and a newer fan base coming from across Melbourne to watch their idols perform.
In sweltering heat Blondie’s lead singer Deborah Harry discarded her skirt several songs in to reveal short shorts to the screaming audience, and performed a number of favourite songs including Call Me and One Way Or Another.
She told fans her favourite rapper was Jay-Z, and dedicated hit song Rapture to him.
Sharing the headline role, the Pretenders took the stage for the final set and wowed audiences with hit songs including Don’t Get Me Wrong.
Supporting acts Adalita and Melbourne band Little Red got the crowd into the mood, and celebrity spotting was also a fun game with music mogul Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum sitting at a table next to Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the VIP area, and sightings of former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks enjoying the music.
