DUAL Lomax medallist Marc Hardy was left high and dry on 99 not out as wickets tumbled around him on day one of round 10 in Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association (FTGDCA) action on the weekend.
At the close of play Hardy’s Upper Ferntree Gully had posted 9/228 against Belgrave at Kings Park.
The Kings recovered from 4/30 on the back of the Hardy’s and Feaver medallist Jay Colee’s 40.
Facing the final over and needing six 6 runs for his century, Hardy hit a boundary and a single before being left stranded even though the Kings were happy with their defendable score and should hold on to a top four spot unless the Belgrave bats fire.
The Basin threw down the gauntlet to ladder leaders Johnson Park at Batterham Park.
The Huntsmen posted a respectable 296 with solid contributions throughout the batting line-up. Jayden Turcinovic top-scored with 67, while half centuries from Heath and Rundle built the base for the score.
Mark Winton and David Devenish provided the firepower for the Sharks. Although Johnson Park has the batting ability to chase down the target The Basin appears to be on track for an upset.
Monbulk set Rowville a target of 203 to secure its second win of the season.
In the battle of the Hawks, Monbulk skipper Aaron Walter remained unbeaten on 52 with Jason Simmonds also reaching 50. Gerard Searle was the best-performed bowler for Rowville with 4/68.
This game provides Rowville with an opportunity to drag other teams back down into the relegation zone, although the Monbulk outfit should be able to defend the runs at home.
Upwey will chase 156 for victory this week, having dismissed Ferntree Gully on a slow Wally Tew Reserve pitch. The Blues were best served by Luke Bowyer and Mark Teofilo, while Sam Waters and Steve Gannell did the damage for the Tigers.
Footballers and Eildon Park can look forward to an interesting tussle as the Griffins try to push their way into the top four. Simon Dignan (72) and Chris Brittain (46) did the job for Footballers as they ended the day on 235, with Eildon Park’s Nathan McNally taking four wickets.
In Decoite Shield action, Knox Gardens rolled St Johns Tecoma for 78 thanks mainly to Travis Mulder’s 5/15. The Falcons have already taken first innings points, finishing the day on 4/92.
South Belgrave could cause an upset as it is 1/28 chasing Knoxfield’s 112. Lysterfield also captured first-innings points against Mountain Gate with Tyden Latty (3/11 and 44) playing his hand for the Beavers.
