SEVILLE cricketers scored a hat-trick over the weekend winning three out of three grand finals for the 2010-11 season.
They took home the D. J. Strachan Shield, the R. A. Finger Trophy and the top placing in D Grade.
Seville played Warburton Millgrove in the D. J. Strachan Shield, a replay of last year’s grand final, and this time Seville took out its first premiership since 1986-87.
The B Graders had a back-to-back win repeating last season’s win in the R. A. Finger Trophy against Healesville, and the D Graders took out the premiership against Yarra Junction with a one-run win.
Seville Cricket Club secretary Fiore DiPietro said it was a “very, very, very satisfying win, a long time in the making”.
“We’ve certainly been runners-up on certain occasions but this is a pretty good result for the club all round,” he said.
Mr DiPietro said with the inclusion of the under-12As winning their grand final, it was the first time in Seville’s history it had taken home four premierships in one season.
He said the A Grade was pretty well secured on Saturday and when they finished at 4pm on Sunday the players moved on to cheer their other teams still battling around the valley.
He said the B Grade played an exciting game. “They pulled out of the ashes when we were 7/49 chasing 146 and the last three batsmen put on almost 100 runs to secure the win.”
“It was an unbelievable final,” he said.
All the players went back to Seville’s home ground on Sunday night with a great celebration, Mr DiPietro said.
“It was a great feeling and quite emotional for some of the older fellas who’re probably playing their last game in D Grade,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of dry years in the A Grade, but it was nice to finally get one.”
Swell time in Seville
