Artists aren’t lounging about

HEALESVILLE is set to become the culture capital of the Yarra Valley, with many new arts-based businesses set to open their doors in the next few months including new concept store the Artist’s Lounge.
Ali Griffin and partner Billy Chisholm, also known for their stunning art space-cum-art school Three Stories, brought together the Artist’s Lounge with art as its ‘reason for being’.
Ali, vice-president of Yarra Valley Arts, and committee member and participant of the Yarra Valley Open Studios said it was through their interaction with artists that they identified a need in the community.
“Many artists work away quietly in their studios, making wonderful little goodies that we seldom see,” she said.
“We thought they should be out there for everyone.
“Artisan wares make great gifts, and keep the artist doing what they love.”
The Artist’s Lounge is a quirky shop dedicated to “the artist in all of us” and is located in the main street of Healesville.
Being talked about as the place to see and be seen, the space boasts a 10-metre gallery wall dedicated to local artists’ artwork, whilst the rest of the shop provides a place to sell their wares.
A different artist will be featured each month, giving them the unique opportunity to exhibit and display their many creative forms of expression in the one place.
“Three Stories will now focus on providing inspiration, artists run workshops at the stunning Three Stories Art School where the views are enough to inspire masterpieces,” she said.
“Whereas the Artist’s Lounge will be a home for people to gather – the place to bump into other creative souls, stock up on artist quality art supplies, an artisan-made goodie for a birthday gift, or even a painting.”
Artists are encouraged to present their works and wares to Ali and Billy for inclusion in the shop.
“Ali is an artist, so we know how hard it can be to make ends meet in this industry,” said Billy.
“Selling artisan wares is our way of helping artists afford to continue to do what they really love – and that’s good for everyone.”
The Artists’ Lounge is located at 222 Maroondah Highway, Healesville and is open from 10.30am to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday. www.artistslounge.com.au
