RESTORATION of the railway precinct and track to Yarra Glen could be part of an exciting future for Yarra Glen according to the Yarra Valley Railway.
The YVR is working with Yarra Glen community groups to explore the role of the station precinct and the train line in the township’s future development.
A public meeting on Thursday 9 June will present exciting plans for the reintroduction of a train service to Yarra Glen, according to YVR president Brett Morton.
President of the Yarra Glen Township Group, Dean Putting, said the meeting was an important one for the town and urged people to attend to see first-hand what the railway group has in mind and how community groups and the broader community can play a part.
“We want people to come along and see what the plans are, what the direction is, the time frames and what is possible for Yarra Glen,” he said.
Mr Putting said the railway was earning a reputation for achieving things and that he would like to see Yarra Glen get behind a local rail-based project.
The meeting will be held at the Uniting Church Hall on Melba Highway at 8pm.
