Hill’s big hoist

By Dennis Fuller
THE Queen’s birthday weekend shortened the field at Emerald Golf Club but not the skills of evergreen Ken Hill (12), who stood atop the winner’s podium with 40 stableford points in his kitbag. The victory also gave Hill the A Grade gong.
Hill’s playing partner, Con Ferrari (21), headed up the B Grade clan with his 39 points to finish one behind the winner.
Peter Clowes (14) was the best of the rest with 35 points, followed by club president Jeffrey Marsh (26) on 34.
John Fisher was nearest the pin on the fourth and the 13th, Ken Sumsion the seventh, David Mackey the 12th, and Grant Inwood picked up the pro pin money on the 18th.
One of the stars of the women’s group, Irene Cranston, stood head and shoulders above the pack with another stunning victory.
Wednesday’s Overly Fanatical Golf (OFG) using OFG handicaps was played in saturated conditions only the fanatical would endure.
Kevin Miller (31) exercised his webbed feet to win with 31 points from Moss Fuller (18) and Ken Hill (12), who both carded 30.
Next week’s competition sees several holes joined together to make a 14-hole course. The format produces the good, the bad and the plain ludicrous.
