Strategy to be reviewed

THE Planning Minister has been asked to appoint an independent planning panel to review submissions on the amendment that puts into effect Yarra Ranges Council’s Housing Strategy.
Amendment C97 will define residential land into areas identified as consolidation (higher density), incremental change (infill) least change (no change) or low-density.
The various categories are addressed through planning controls which include subdivision, height, site cover, vegetation protection and design.
The C97 Housing Amendment was formally exhibited during September and October last year and 150 written submissions, including a number of late submissions, were received after public meetings across the shire.
The independent planning panel will be asked to review changes to the amendment which Yarra Ranges Council does not accept.
Some modifications to the proposed amendment were endorsed by the council at its meeting on 10 May including changes to vegetation controls in Mount Evelyn and changes to the Design and Overlay Schedule and Municipal Strategic Statement which will become part of the council’s submission to the independent panel.
Anyone who made a submission will have an opportunity to be heard by the independent panel.
