THE under-16 Monbulk Rangers Gunners recorded their first win for the season, defeating Healesville 5-4 on Saturday.
It was a hard-fought match with Monbulk changing its team structure. Monbulk was down within the first few minutes but came back and was up 4-2 at half-time. In a tight finish, with Healesville finishing strong and scoring a further two goals, the Gunners just held on to record their first win.
The women’s seniors had an easy win against Brighton, cruising to a 5-0 victory. Monbulk dominated possession and its quick and precise midfield passing gave the side plenty of goal scoring opportunities.
Monbulk slowed down in the second half, scoring only one goal, but Brighton still failed to threaten the side’s strong defence. The win puts the seniors third – well on the way to being promoted to the Premier League.
The under-15 Pumas won 3-0 against Blackburn. The Pumas worked hard to keep possession, patiently building up to goal-scoring opportunities.
Quality passing enabled the Pumas to play their own game and, as a result, score two goals from distance – catching Blackburn off guard.
Another goal was scored after a great cross from the wing into the box. Tim Reeve was named player of the match for his courageous defence, especially in the final minutes of the game, as he headed the ball to win contests in the air.
