Live before you die

By Emma Schenk
DREAMS of the future come to life in the Before I Die spaces that have recently been installed around the area.
The project invites people to share what’s important to them on a blackboard for all to see.
The idea first came from American artist Candy Chang’s project and started in May during the Palliative Care Week, spreading hope across the region.
Louise Hogan from Eastern Palliative Care believes the project creates important discussion of death and dreams that often isn’t spoken about in Western culture.
“It gives exposure to these topics and gets people thinking,” she said.
An amazing array of wishes have been discovered so far, such as wanting to climb Mount Everest, watching grand-kids grow up, seeing world peace, marrying Justin Beiber and someone wanting to simply clean their kitchen table. Installations have been set up at local libraries including Belgrave and Nunawading and will soon be launched at the Healesville memorial wall.
