THE Monbulk Rangers Women’s Seniors went down to Preston on Sunday, a loss that may jeopardise the side’s chances of a Premier League promotion.
Monbulk was equal second on the ladder before the match, but has now dropped to equal fourth.
The game started well for Monbulk with Aliesha Whetham scoring within the first 10 minutes. But Preston came back and scored two goals.
Despite the 2-1 loss, Monbulk battled hard, especially the midfield with great performances from Emily Hulbert and Rebecca Saber.
Erchana Murray-Bartlett made several great passes to the forwards but they were unable to put the ball into the net.
Monbulk will have to work hard for the remainder of the season if it’s to be promoted.
The Monbulk Rangers Women’s Reserves defeated Preston 4-1 in what was its toughest game of the season.
Preston was aggressive and physical, but Monbulk managed to hold its ground and go into half-time 1-0 up.
Monbulk had more determination than Preston and that resulted in a further three goals in the second half.
Monbulk dominated the midfield, utilising its wing players Ashlea Richmond and Alex Gardner to cross balls into the box.
Goalscorers were Darcie Sands, Natalie Allan from a terrific free kick, and Nicky Cranston (two goals). Monbulk is now two games clear on the top of the ladder.
