Water level high

HARD to believe but August was a dry month round the valley according to the Mail’s rainfall recorders.
The good news from Water Minister Peter Walsh, however, is that despite the August lull, Melbourne’s dams have entered spring at their highest levels in more than 10 years – attributed to the overall good winter rains, and the good water-saving habits of Melburnians.
In Warburton Keith Thomas recorded 66.5mm, below the average 135.7mm. The annual total of 948.5mm is still well in excess of the average 830mm.
Doug Armstrong in Hoddles Creek recorded 60mm compared with 183mm last August, and 1118mm for the year against last year’s eight month total of 778mm.
Mr Armstrong said August was the driest month for the year.
Healesville was similar with Alma Mitchell recording 61.0mm compared with 135.6mm in 2010.
