THE Dukes of Despair are back in Healesville with a concert at Mocha and Lime this Saturday.
The return of the band’s rootsy semi-acoustic sound at the popular café venue will also see the introduction of new band member Tony McKay to the line-up of Jeff Jenkins, Kim Farrell and David Johnston.
Jenkins, Farrell and Johnston came together to play and write music early in the new millennium.
After seven years, two different four-piece bands, three CDs and regular gigs at venues including the Rainbow, Nighthawk and St Andrews Hotel, along with festival appearances, they decided on a different direction.
The new-born Dukes of Despair – Jenkins on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Farrell on vocals, lead and slide guitars and Johnston on vocals, snare, brushes, cymbals and stompbox – adapted a more acoustic-based sound, further enhanced by the talents of their new bass player.
The concert, from 8pm till 11pm, will preview music from their soon to be recorded second CD.
Tickets are $7.50, available from Mocha and Lime. Phone 5962 2288.
