WANDIN Rotary Club gave the gift of life to its local sporting club last month.
The Rotary club presented a defibrillator machine to Wandin Football, Cricket and Netball Club on Saturday 27 August.
The donation was supported by Alan and Tracey Henderson and the Wandin Traders Market.
Rotarian Gavin McIntyre said the need for the equipment was highlighted by the recent tragic death of a local footballer at Silvan and reinforced by the loss of another young footballer two weeks ago in Ballarat.
“We purchased the defibrillator through Defib For Life, which has been set up with the aim of providing all country sporting clubs with defibrillators and training to use the machine in case of an emergency, while waiting for an ambulance,” he said.
The machine cost $2500, but Mr McIntyre said: “If it saves one life, the cost means nothing”.
“We sincerely hope that this equipment will never be needed at Wandin, but if it is, then hopefully it might save a life.”
