But their fears were alleviated after councillors deferred the planning application for a 13-lot subdivision.
Councillors still spoke to the matter during the Tuesday 27 September council meeting which seeks approval for the 29 to 33 King Street site to subdivide into 13 lots in a court bowl design with access via Sayle Street.
Six objections were received and a consultation meeting was held in August.
But Councillor Jeanette McRae said fairly major modifications had been made to the plans since the consultation.
“I am aware there was a proposal for access to King Street brought up but the applicant couldn’t respond at that stage,” she said.
“We need to have conversations about that alternative access and also to notify these residents.”
Cr Tim Heenan agreed, and said the changes couldn’t be dealt with until talks had been held with King Street residents.
