THE crowd took to the chorus of “we love you, you old fart” as Meat Loaf took to the stage on Saturday night.
It was a sell-out crowd for Rochford Winery’s first Day on the Green concert for the summer season.
The 64-year-old rocker had been plagued by health problems and MCG grand final dramas during his Australasian Guilty Pleasures tour, but the sun came out when he took to the stage with his band. The crowd was hit by rain as support acts Choirboys and Thirsty Merc took to the stage, but it didn’t dampen many spirits with revellers partying on until the end.
Rochford Winery manager Graham Taylor said the feedback from guests was fantastic.
“Every concert there seems to be more and more people from the region coming, which is great,” he said.
“It’s one way to see international acts like Meat Loaf on your doorstop.”
Mr Taylor said Meat Loaf’s set, which went for two-and-a-half hours, helped clear the carpark progressively.
“We’ve extended the parking areas with a better set up but regulars would have been a bit confused,” he said.
“From our point of view it went very smooth, and was the quickest concert in terms of people leaving at the end of the night.”
The next Day on the Green concert will feature Steely Dan and Steve Winwood on Saturday 29 October.
