Melba Highway closed between Yea and Castella

The Melba Highway is closed in both directions between Yea and Castella following a cattle truck rollover in Murrindindi.

Motorists should consider using the Maroondah Highway through Molesworth, Alexandra, Taggerty, Buxton and Narbethong.

This detour is suitable for heavy vehicles.

Another alternative to consider is Whittlesea-Yea Road through Flowerdale to Kinglake West.

From there, Whittlesea-Kinglake Road and Healesville-Kinglake Road will lead drivers back to the Melba Highway.

This route is not suitable for heavy vehicles.

Both detours will significantly increase travel times and distance travelled.

The closure of the Melba Highway is under the control of Victoria Police. All lanes will reopen when investigations are complete and it is safe to do so.
