Road sign vandals warned

PEOPLE vandalising road signs on Chum Creek Road could face more serious charges than they realise.
Healesville Sergeant Wayne Williams said police would be increasing patrols of the road after reports from VicRoads of damage to signs and traffic signals.
Sgt Williams said the signage had been placed on the road after recent storms and any interference was a criminal offence.
“Signage used for traffic control is put there for a reason, to allow vehicles to move through the area safely.”
He said anyone who disrupts, damages or steals signage could find themselves facing serious charges including conduct endangering life.
“Whatever pitiful, silly reasoning that people are using to believe that they should be causing this damage must stop now,” he said, adding that Healesville police would see any prosecutions through to the courts.
