ROC-ing into action

WHEN Reefton ROCS, the whole community is part of the action.
On Saturday 19 November, the annual Reefton ROCS (Remembering Our Community Strength) music and community festival will truly rock!
The annual fundraiser for Reefton CFA and Upper Yarra Landcare, now in its third year, has become very much part of the Upper Yarra event calendar.
Running from noon to 10pm at the Reefton Hotel at McMahons Creek, the event is very much a family and community festival.
One of Australia’s leading blues performers Lloyd Spiegel will headline on stage along with a spectacular line-up of imported and local bands including the Victorian Police band Code 1, Smokey and the Bandits, Dukes of Despair, Enough Said, Full Fat and Marshall’s Commonwealth.
Throughout the day there will be market stalls selling local produce and the work of local artists, kids activities, Landcare and CFA information an displays, along with other environmental and community groups, food by the local CFA and a Battle of the Bands for young musicians.
Kids activities include a jumping castle, face painting, bubble machine, lucky dips, handball competition, laughing clowns and more.
The organisers have used their amazing powers of persuasion to pull together a fantastic array of ‘must have’ goodies – including Collingwood and Hawthorn memorabilia, for the silent auction.
A $20 ticket in the limited 1000-ticket raffle will get punters a chance to win great prizes in the Reefton ROCS raffle.
First prize is a camping trailer valued at $6500, a 51-inch plasma 3D television is second prize, and third prize is a $1000 travel voucher.
A shuttle bus will run from Warburton and the Upper Yarra Dam with plenty of parking at both places, and at pick-up points along the way – the Upper Yarra Arts Centre, Warburton Caravan Park, East Warburton Primary School, Cement Creek Road, Reefton CFA and the dam.
