THE MAIL Newspaper Group held its end of year celebrations on the weekend, cleaning up with a number of in-house awards.
Mountain Views Mail reporter Kath Gannaway won Best News Photograph for her depiction of the trauma of a situation that saw a man on the run for more than a week after stabbing a police officer.
The Ranges Trader Mail’s Casey Neill was presented with the award for the Best Feature Story for her story “Daddy’s little angel” which featured the battle Mikayla Francis and her family faced as the brave seven-year-old was diagnosed with a quick-spreading liver and lung cancer.
Sadly, Mikayla is no longer with us, but she touched the hearts and minds of everyone in our community.
The sensitive layout of the page for the same story, designed by Mark Clancy and Mark Dinnie, won an award for Best Page Design.
Russell Bennett’s story in the Trader Mail “Sons’ deaths tear family apart”, about the Hall family’s loss of both their sons as part of our Drive to Survive campaign was also highly commended.
The awards cover 23 Star News Group newspapers, as well as a number of magazines including Tourist News and Wedding Bells.
Star News Group also manages and owns 50 per cent of the Mail Newspaper Group, a community newspaper group of five mastheads based in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.
All in all it was a great year for the Mail Newspaper Group, and we thank our readers for their support.
