BILLED as Australia’s largest and most popular all-historic motor race meeting, Historic Winton will celebrate its 30th Anniversary when the cars take to the track in May.
Next to Bathurst, Historic Winton is the longest running motor-racing event in Australia.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend over the two action-packed days on the weekend of 27 and 28 May.
The organisers, the Austin Seven Club and the Historic Motorcycle Racing Association Victoria, have extended an invitation to all owners of old cars to head to Winton with their vehicles and join in the picnic atmosphere.
The weekend starts on the Thursday with the Classic Car and Motorbike Rally departing from outside the Benalla Art Gallery at 10.30am for a tour of Benalla and the district.
On Friday, from 2pm to 5pm, Nunn Street in Benalla will be closed for a static display of race cars and classic vehicles. Highlights at the track include:
• A Mini dash in honour of the Mini Cooper S victory at Bathurst in 1966.
• Racing by Great Aussie Specials, including many of the most significant, locally constructed vehicles in Australian motor sport history.
• Non-stop racing by historic racing, sports and sports-racing cars plus vintage, veteran, classic and more modern motorbikes and sidecars.
The weekend program starts on Saturday with official practice at 9am and racing from 1pm and on Sunday, racing all day from 9am.
Entry is $15 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday or $35 for the weekend.
