Postcard from Demons captain

By Dion Teasdale
YARRA Glen Primary School students were treated to a visit from Melbourne Football Club captain David Neitz earlier this month.
Mr Neitz visited the school to encourage students to enter the Victorian Department of Education’s Design a Postcard competition.
The contest, run by Australia Post, is one of the activities being held in the lead-up to National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) in September.
Students from years four to eight are being invited to create a design for a postcard depicting their favourite place in Victoria.
Winners in three year-group categories will be awarded $500 and a further $1000 for their school, and will have their postcard printed for use by themselves and their school.
Mr Neitz fielded a number of questions from the budding designers at Yarra Glen Primary before settling down to help them complete their competition entries.
On discovering a number of Essendon fans among the class, he asked the young Bombers supporters to come to the front and had them do 10 press-ups each.
“Essendon beat Melbourne in the 2000 grand final, so if I meet any young Bombers fans, I make them do press-ups – it’s my way of getting revenge,” Mr Neitz joked.
The Bombers fans were happy to oblige and show Mr Neitz their determined spirit.
The Design a Postcard competition is open to all Victorian students in years four to eight, and closes on Friday, 7 July.
