ROUND 2 of senior Yarra Valley cricket was played on Saturday with the weather providing another good day.
In the DJ Strachan Shield, Yarra Junction hosted Seville and batted first reaching 7/183 after the 40 overs innings. Nathan Fall 55 and Ben Lever 49 were top scorers. Craig Atkins 3/35 was the best of the Seville bowlers. In reply in what proved to be a close and exciting game Seville were 7/176 with Craig Atkins top scoring with 53.
Warburton-Millgrove’s score of 6/220 after 40 overs was spearheaded by Michael Walker with 88 not out and Luke Darwell 84. Silvan’s Mark Appleby took 3/41,
Silvan were dismissed for 185 with J. Lovell 46 and R. Sleeman 30 while spinners Adam Humphreys 4/64 and Cameron Darwell 3/40 took the wickets for Warburton-Millgrove.
In a close match at Coldstream Cricket Ground, both sides batted their allotted 40 overs with Coldstream 8/128 defeating Yarra Panther 9/120. K. Wallace 5/29, P. Oro 45 not out were the best.
At Queens Park, Healesville, Wandin batted first to reach 3/128 with new recruit from Seville John Aumann making an undefeated 78 while the best bowling came from Healesville captain Darren Edwards with 2/30. In reply Healesville were all out for 120 (J. Heywood 33). Steve McIntyre bowled steadily to take 4/23.
In their first home match of 2006-07, Woori Yallock’s score of 162 (Cal Ferguson 36), Chris Anderson 4/30 and Shane Luck 4/28, was not enough to defeat Mt Evelyn who scored an impressive 6/234 (Andrew Giblin 81 not out and Kane Jones 53).
In the RA Finger Trophy no scores were received from the Kinglake v Gruyere District match.
Yarra Glen hosted Hoddles Creek and were all out for 128 (Chris Foster 47, Jeff Crewe 3/16, S Davis 3/28) They lost to Hoddles Creek 5/140 (M. Batten 41, D. Tazzyman 40 not out, Jamie Holland 3/41).
Launching Place United had 58 overs to chase down Marysville’s score of 48 all out and they did this with ease with Andrew Hoare making 107 not out, T. Wheeler 38 while L. Ware took 3/38 for Marysville. N Micklin 5/31 bundled out Marysville who lost a few players to be on standby for fire calls.
Most other matches went along well.
In DJSS 3 the Yarra Junction v Seville match saw Yarra Junction reach 6/208 with Stuart Thomas 105 not out but this was not enough to hold Seville as they reached 2/273.
Paul Pleming 88, Scott Luckhurst 83 not out and Stuart Sculthorpe 76 were all in the runs.
