TRUE cricket weather greeted all cricketers in the Yarra Valley on Saturday with a highlight of the day’s play a match-saving century by Mt Evelyn’s Shane Luck.
The second day of round five being in the senior grades, Seville continued their chase of Wandin’s 116 amassing 360 for the loss of 7 wickets at stumps. Scott Page on 112, Andrew Kay 66 not out and Craig Atkins on 53, led the way to a convincing win for Seville.
In a low scoring match, Coldstream’s 155 with Liam Doughty 55, Scott Reece 30, was not enough against Yarra Junction who reached 183 on the first day. Yarra Junction’s Nathan Fall bowled extremely well to take 6 for 38.
Healesville with 178 on the board were a little to strong for Woori Yallock’s 132. Michael King on 43 and Darren Edwards 4/41, were the best individual performers.
Yarra Panthers scored 174 for the loss of 9 wickets on the first day and in reply Mt Evelyn were in some trouble early at 4/25. But a fine century from Shane Luck 114 enabled Mt Evelyn to post a winning score of 249. Rob Williams bowled well to take 6/64 in a tidy spell.
Warburton scored 167, with Brent Summers on 39 and Michael Walker 37 best with the bat. Silvan’s Stuart Reynolds bowled well to take 4 for 25 and, off 29 overs, Gary Frankovic grabbed 2 for 50. Warburton defeated Silvan 128 – Clint Sharman 39 and Wayne Watson 4 for 29.
In Strachan Shield 3 Woori Yallock father and son opening partnership and David and Dan Mock put on 84 for the partnership (David 45 and Dan 41), but it was not enough to save the side against Mt Evelyn.
Hoddles Creek’s Jessi Ridd had a wonderful day in Finger Trophy match against Marysville. He made 52 in Hoddles Creek’s 6/239 declared and then helped his side to an outright win by taking 5 for 10 off 13 overs to dismiss Marysville for 138.
