HEALESVILLE Tennis Club members and other tennis enthusiasts will be able to play into the night following the installation of new lights and synthetic grass courts at the club’s Queens Park home.
The club has received two synthetic grass courts with lighting as a result of a threeway partnership with the Shire of Yarra Ranges and Sports and Recreation Victoria.
The $100,000 upgrade was funded by a $50,000 contribution from Sports and Recreation Victoria and a $10,000 grant from the shire, with the Healesville Tennis Club contributing the remaining funds.
Shire of Yarra Ranges councillor Di Moore said the upgrade would benefit local tennis players and would give the club an opportunity to increase patronage.
“Tennis players of all ages and skill levels will be able to play on a range of different surfaces to improve their game,” she said.
“Upgrading the Healesville Tennis Club will make tennis even more enjoyable for those who already play and will encourage other people to join in.”
The club has six tennis courts at Queens Park with two entoutcas, two plexipave and now two synthetic grass surfaces.
The club also has four courts at the Don Road Sporting Complex.
