I WOULD like to thank everyone who contributed to making the World’s Largest Lunch, held at our home, such a success.
Thank you to local Healesville traders Bron Bron Janga, Taste Buds in the Ville and Bakers Delight for their generous contributions and to all the lovely people who attended and gave so generously.
We raised $1230 for the Leukaemia Foundation. This money will be used for further research and patient support.
Around 50,000 Australians are currently living with Leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
We are also raffling a beautiful watercolour, painted and kindly donated by local artist Trevor Opray.
Tickets can be obtained for $2 each from Healesville Newsagency where the painting is on display.
Thank you all for your continued support.

IMAGINE being told that when you changed banks you would never pay any fees on any accounts.
Sounds impossible? Too good to be true? Not only did the Commonwealth Bank Healesville offer me this great incentive but continued to offer me any size loan, any size credit card limit and still no fees!
They even offered a safety deposit envelope last year at no charge. Last year my circumstances changed and now every few months I get letters stating that fees must be charged. Not to rub salt into the wound, they want to charge me $27.50 annual fee for a safety deposit envelope that is empty!
They stated that it was only free if I didn’t use it often. I have only used it once and haven’t placed anything in the envelope since. What a joke!
Shame on you Healesville branch!
Someone on TV said we should all withdraw all our funds from the banks, even for one day but that would be impossible because they have invested our money elsewhere.
The sad reality of this is they (our local bank) just don’t care any more.

THE letter from Jeanne Lawrence of Montrose (Mail, 6 September) and her comments that Liberal candidates for the next state election are recycled yesterday’s men and women really does require response.
Many politicians win and lose elections. Perhaps her memory needs jogging with a list of “recycled Labor politicians”.
State Attorney General Rob Hulls was a Labor Federal Member who lost his seat to Bob Katter before entering State Parliament.
Treasurer John Brumby was also a Federal Member and who lost his seat of Bendigo before becoming a state member.
Caroline Hirsch lost her state seat and was reelected as the member for Silvan several years later. Ann Barker, current Member for Oakleigh, lost her seat before winning the same seat back several years later.
Even Steve Bracks was a recycled candidate, having stood unsuccessfully on several occasions for preselection!
As to the comments about lack of Liberal women, what a load of Labor rubbish!
Liberal women hold equal numbers of positions on the federal and state executives and there are many up and coming talented women who will at a time of their choosing will enter parliament.
Unlike Labor we Liberals don’t have quotas or tokenism. We choose the best person to represent the electorate; it is too important a role to be decided like Labor does purely on faction or gender.
Liberals are proud of endorsing quality local candidates who are committed to the community and the Liberal Party beliefs of a fair go for all, irrespective of gender, race or religion.
