Pets are food for thought

COLDSTREAM’S Animal Aid shelter is celebrating World Animal Week by encouraging humans to eat for a good cause.
The shelter, which houses, rehabilitates and find new homes for up to 5000 abandoned animals each year, is again running it’s Eat For Pete campaign.
This year’s Pete, a four-year-old golden Labrador, is asking Yarra Valley residents to dine at a dozen local eateries that will donate part of the customer’s bill to the shelter.
Animal Aid shelter spokeswoman Debra Boland said donations would help the shelter continue its animal welfare work.
“World Animal Week is a celebration of the human-animal bond and urges you to make a positive gesture to help all the animals who cannot speak for themselves,” she said.
“The resources at our shelter are always stretched to the limit and donations from the eateries participating in the Eat For Pete campaign will help fund the work we do here.”
Ms Boland said this year’s Eat For Pete campaign would take place on Saturday, 30 September and Sunday, 1 October at the following venues: Black Spur Nursery Café, Healesville; Cheesy Freaks and Book Nuts, Healesville; Rustic Charm, Wandin North; Valley Bakery, Warburton; Yarra Valley Coffee, Lilydale; Morrison On The Park, Mt Evelyn; Crundish Cafe, Warburton; The Conservatory Café, Croydon; Olinda Creek Hotel, Lilydale; Yarra Valley Deli and Wine Bar, Wandin; and Banq Café and Wine Bar, Yarra Glen.
