WORK is set to begin on the $600,000 upgrade of Edward Road in Chirnside Park.
The road will be widened from the end of the divided section, just north of Chirnside Drive, to Switchback Road.
The works, funded through the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Program, will include widening the road to include parking and turning lanes.
Shire of Yarra Ranges councillor Ken Smith said the works would greatly improve safety for residents.
“Residents expressed their concerns about safety and parking at a community meeting in May 2004 and as a result the road was listed for improvement,” he said.
“The road is a dividing line between the rural and urban areas in the shire. One side is residential with limited parking while the other has rural properties and a large roadside verge. The improvements will ensure residents have ample parking on the residential side and safer access to their properties,” Cr Smith said.
It is expected that the work will be completed in October.
