Traditional fare on new menu

HEALESVILLE RSL’s Light Horse Bistro has introduced a new winter menu and locals are being invited to drop in and sample the cuisine.
The new menu, which features an impressive range of entrees, mains and desserts, along with special meals for different age groups, was introduced two weeks ago.
Chef Wayne Farrow said the response from diners had been very positive and that the new menu had introduced a fresh approach to bistro dining in the cooler months.
“The new menu offers a range of traditional hearty winter dishes, such as quality steak meals, lovely pasta dishes and warming desserts,” he said.
“It also offers great seafood dishes and some tempting chicken dishes and there is something for every member of the family.”
The entree menu features delicious meals such as the Warm Lemon Pepper Calamari, which is served on a garden salad with a light seeded mustard dressing.
The main menu features a mouth-watering Mango Chicken dish, which includes a grilled chicken breast, served on mash topped with a creamy mango sauce and seasonal vegetables.
Wayne said the grilled Lamb Cutlets, which are served on a semi sun-dried tomato, mushroom, spinach risotto with a rosemary and cranberry sauce, was one of the bistro’s most popular dishes.
From the dessert menu, Wayne recommends the Sticky Date Pudding with a Butterscotch Sauce and the grandma’s Golden Syrup Dumplings, both served with cream or ice-cream.
The bistro has a range of special dining offers throughout the week, including a $16 Parma and Pot special on Mondays and Tuesdays and a special Kids Eat Free night on Thursdays.
The menu also caters to particular age groups. There is a seniors menu, which offers one course for $9.50 or two courses for $11.50, and includes a choice of entree, main and dessert (not available Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights).
There is also a special kid’s menu that includes favourites such as tacos, fish and chips, dim sims and chicken strips. All dishes are served with a glass of soft drink and a kids dessert for only $7.50.
Teenagers are also specially catered for. For $13.50 they can choose from beef lasagne with salad and chips, fish and chips served with salad, and tacos and chicken parmigiana, which are both served with chips and salad.
“As well as the food, we’ve got a cosy bistro which is great for getting warm and staying warm during these cold days and nights,” Wayne said.
The bistro is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Lunch is served from noon to 2pm and dinner from 6pm to 8pm. Bookings are preferred. Phone 5962 5598 or 5962 5017.
