SMARTPLAY, a Victorian State Government funded sports safety program, is looking for a sports injury champion.
Smartplay is searching for Victoria’s sport safety champion and to uncover these local heroes they are offering sporting clubs a chance to grab a share of more than $4000 in cash and prizes.
According to Rebecca Jackson, development manager with Smartplay, more than a million Australians are injured playing sport each year. Those figures could be much higher, however, she says, if it were not for the great work being done to prevent injury and keep people active by many of the state’s community sporting clubs.
The award, now in its third year, was developed to acknowledge sporting clubs and their members in making sport safer and lowering the rate of sporting injuries in Victoria.
“Smartplay believes that Victorian community sporting clubs play a key role in lowering the rate of sporting injuries in the community,” Ms Jackson said.
“The Smartplay Victorian Sport Safety Champion competition represents a great opportunity for clubs and individuals involved with clubs to be recognised for the good work they are doing to address sport safety.”
Smartplay is looking for an individual and a club that have been active in addressing sports injury prevention in community sport.
“The individual could be anyone who plays a role in preventing injury including a coach, administrator, first-aider, sports trainer, parent of player,” Ms Jackson said.
The competition is open to all not-for-profit community sporting clubs affiliated with a state sporting association.
