Good victory for Mt Evelyn

By Keith Thompson
A FEW welcome showers were in the air on Saturday but fortunately for the cricket, they held off in the main to allow play to be completed in this the final day of Round 11 in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association.
Coldstream 143 (Liam Doughty 44, Chris Anderson 3/37) could not reach the score produced by Mt Evelyn who declared their first innings at 6/295cc. In the second innings they reached 5/113cc with Luke Jones 35*, Troy Peftard 2/14, Mark Williams 2/21, producing a solid win for Mt Evelyn.
Last week Seville reached 228 and needed to keep Silvan below that score for a win to be attained. In a steady chase Silvan finally were dismissed just 28 short at 200, struggling to get partnerships going with Clint Sharman making 39 the best of the bats. Craig Atkins and Steve Bover both took three wickets for Seville.
In the match at Woori Yallock, the home side was chasing Warburton’s 8/253 but were all out for 186. Andrew Sharp on 51, led the batting with Michael King on 59. Nathan Ward also batted well for 35. For Warburton the outstanding bowling came from Michael Walker with 6/60; a good win for Warburton.
Wandin 9/333 after the close of their innings needed to keep the Panthers in control all day and this they did with fine bowling from Ross and Frankovic, eventually dismissing the Yarra Panthers for 156. Frank Spackman (80) was the leading run maker, Wayne Ross 3 for 24 and Gary Frankovic 4 for 34 coming away with a good win for Wandin to consolidate their position on the ladder with only two rounds to go.
Healesville 182 could not keep Yarra Junction to less than that score with Yarra Junction creeping past to be all out for just 192 with Kevin Bomford 30, Alan Pearce 4 for 56 and Julian Russell 3 for 66 grabbing the wickets.
