RUMOURS about McEwan MP Fran Bailey’s future in federal politics surfaced last week.
The Mail was told by several sources that Ms Bailey would retire from politics at the next federal election, scheduled for 2007.
Rumours also included the suggestion that former racing car champion and Hurstbridge resident Peter Brock has been earmarked to take over as the Liberal candidate for McEwen.
Mr Brock, who strongly supported Ms Bailey during her campaign to be re-elected last year, has been selected to carry the Queen’s Baton as it passes through Healesville in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games in March.
A spokesman for Ms Bailey told The Mail the rumours were complete fabrication.
“There is absolutely no truth to these rumours. Mr Brock is a close friend of Ms Bailey’s and it seems the ALP like to spread this rumour every Christmas,” he said.
