AS part of its fundraising for a planned new labyrinth, Healesville’s Rivendell organisation has invited members of the community to participate in a brick drive.
Organiser Julia Peddie said that the labyrinth would be an important project for Rivendell.
It would offer members of the community a beautiful space to come together and take time out of their busy lives to reflect, grieve, make sense of the world or just reflect on life.
“A labyrinth can be used for walking and meditation and has been said to reduce stress and anxiety,” Ms Peddie said.
The John Ko designed environment will encapsulate a rain garden that will include drought-resistant plants, creating a passive recreation space.
“The project will cost about $150,000, so we are seeking assistance from the local community, but we will also appeal to businesses,” Ms Peddie said.
“We are looking into options that could see the sponsorship of a tree or parts of the labyrinth.”
Rivendell offers support to people with a psychiatric disability by providing individual help for them to achieve their personal goals and maximise their potential for mental health.
Rivendell runs group recreation, social and skill-based programs and activities. Participants take an active part in choosing and planning group activities.
The cost of a brick is $10 per person, $50 for a family and $100 for a small business.
