Tender is approved

WORK is scheduled to start on the nearly $1.9m Family and Children’s Services Centre and new Community Link at Yarra Junction.
Construction firm D & A Dickson Pty Ltd won the contract to develop the former Upper Yarra Shire offices into an integrated building designed to house a range of services for families and children in the Upper Yarra area.
The project is jointly funded by the Department of Human Services and the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Councillors voted at the 23 January council meeting to accept the Dickson tender and to refer a budget shortfall of $76,364 to the 2007-2008 Major Capital Works Program budget.
Cr Monika Keane also called for a report on the cost of installing additional environmentally sustainable design elements in the building.
She said the building would be a hub for community services for a large number of people in Yarra Junction and other areas of the shire.
“If we are serious about doing things which are environmentally sustainable, how about doing it in our own buildings?” she said.
It is anticipated the project will be completed by late this year and ready for use by the start of 2008.
