YARRA Valley Cougars player Lauren Tesoriero has been named in the All Australian Women’s Football team after a great week of competition in the AFL Women’s National Championships in Sydney.
Playing teams from every state except Tasmania, the Victorian team convincingly defeated Western Australia 18.7.125 to 2.1.13.
Congratulating her 19-year-old team-mate on her selection, Cougars club president Lori Woodcock said ‘Tessa’ now has the opportunity to go to Ireland in October to compete in the first Women’s Gaelic game between Australia and Ireland.
The game will be the curtain-raiser to the annual men’s game.
Woodcock said the Cougars had campaigned to raise funds to send Tesoriero to Sydney and was now looking for sponsorship to enable her to show the standard of Yarra Valley women’s football to Irish fans.
Woodcock said more than $1500 was needed, and anyone who could help could contact her at the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League on 5961 5611 or on 0417 143 492.
