MOUNTAIN District Private Hospital, purpose-built in 1982, has been providing healthcare to the local community for 25 years.
Located in the outer eastern suburbs in Boronia, the hospital is licensed for 40 beds and boasts modern facilities set in picturesque gardens at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.
The hospital is owned by the Independent Hospitals of Australia IPHoA Pty Limited group, which is committed to ensuring quality care.
The Surgical Services at the hospital include general surgery, orthopaedic, urology, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology, dental, dermatology, plastics, gynaecology, endoscopy and bariatric surgery for obesity patients.
“We have gained an excellent reputation for our care of pain management and palliative care patients,” hospital spokeswoman Trish King said.
“The quiet ambient surroundings make our hospital the perfect choice for the frail elderly patient.
“With ample on-site parking it is easy for relatives and friends when they are visiting or dropping off and picking up.”
Ms King said the short stay medical unit copes very well with a number of conditions including pneumonia, chest infections, cellulitis, urinary conditions, diabetes management and chronic obstructive airways disease.
“We encourage the general practitioner to contact the hospital directly to organise their patient’s care under one of our physicians on call,” Ms King explained.
“This can make the transition for the patient a lot less distressing often avoiding lengthy waiting times in accident and emergency departments.
“We have been communicating this option to the managers of the surrounding aged care facilities in order to assist in achieving improved outcomes in healthcare for their residents,” she said.
The needs of elderly patients requiring referral for aged care assessment are also well catered for with visiting social work services.
Mountain District Private Hospital is in the rare but fortunate position of having a full complement of dedicated experienced nursing staff which Ms King said is instrumental in providing excellent continuity of patient care.
St Vincent’s Pathology has a collection centre located on site and all patients are bulk billed with no out of pocket expense for pathology services.
St Vincent’s pathology is a not for profit organisation and has been providing services to the community for more than 100 years.
