A COURIER driver who crashed his van on the Black Spur on Wednesday was lucky to walk away uninjured.
The Croydon man was travelling towards Healesville on Maroondah Highway about 5pm when the vehicle veered across the road and crashed three metres down the embankment.
Healesville police who attended the accident say the driver overcorrected after going into gravel on the side of the road.
Senior Constable Chris Hickey said the driver managed to avoid oncoming vehicles but went off the road, hitting a tree on the way down and flipping the van.
Healesville CFA and SES units and Healesville ambulance also attended.
Traffic on the highway was held up for close to an hour while the vehicle was winched up the embankment.
