WORK will begin this month on a new pathway in Seville after the Shire of Yarra Ranges and State Government committed funds to the project.
The new shared path will follow the Wandin Yallock Creek north from Seville to connect with the Warburton Rail Trail.
The Shire of Yarra Ranges is providing $186,000 towards the cost of the project and the Victorian Government is providing a further $186,000.
A new pedestrian bridge will be constructed to connect the trail with nearby residential streets and a number of access points will be provided to enhance the awareness of the creek habitat among locals and visitors.
Measures will also be taken to restore the creek habitat and improve water quality.
Yarra Ranges councillor Graham Warren said the local Seville community identified the need for a pedestrian, cycling and horse-riding trail to link the township with the highly popular Warburton Rail Trail.
“The new link will mean that more visitors will come to Seville and that can only be good for local businesses,” Cr Warren said.
“It will also provide good recreational opportunities for people of all ages.”
