Police clamp on hoons

By Dion Teasdale
HEALESVILLE police have nabbed, charged and fined three ‘hoon’ drivers in a 24-hour period.
Sergeant Tony Van Gorp said officers intercepted a 14-year-old male driving an unregistered car around Healesville High School on the evening of Thursday, 10 November.
Police allege the driver was driving without a licence and driving dangerously.
“Police have interviewed the young male and he will be charged on summons,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
He said police also intercepted two young male drivers the following evening doing ‘wheelies’ in the vicinity of the Healesville township.
He said police intercepted an 18-year-old Healesville man about 7.25pm on Friday, 11 November driving recklessly on River Street.
“The driver was given three penalty notices totalling $534, has lost his licence for one month, and was also given an defect notice for his vehicle,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
Later that same evening police intercepted a 21-year-old Healesville man doing ‘wheelies’ at the corner of Cornish Road and Don Road, Healesville.
“The young man was given fines totalling $304 and his vehicle was issued with a defect notice,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
“Healesville police are targeting these types of behaviour and people who conduct themselves in this way will be caught and penalised.”
