SES is a big charity winner

By Kath Gannaway
THE Yarra Valley Group of Bowls Past Presidents held their annual Charity Day at Lilydale Bowls Club on Thursday 21 February.
The day was most successful with 88 bowlers participating and the most pleasing aspect was that $1000 was raised for Healesville SES.
State president of Bowls Past Presidents Association Garth Eva attended with his wife Lois, along with two state committee members, Ian Ross and Graham Otte.
The winners on the day were H. Hudson, G. Kenyon, A. Hudson and Mrs G. Kenyon, while the runners-up were R. Wood, M. Ross and I. Smieja, but the big winner was Healesville SES.
SES controller Karen Picone was taken aback to be presented with such a large cheque by Yarra Valley president Charles Hort and said that the money would be placed toward the purchase of new chain saws and various other life saving equipment.
In presenting the cheque, Mr Hort mentioned that this is the 12th year of the charity day, raising $1000 each time, which has been distributed equally between Upper Yarra, Lilydale and Healesville SES.
