YARRA Valley Water moved last week to assure Seville residents that they can safely drink the tap water.
The statement came after reports in the media of E-coli detected in Seville drinking water last year.
The third annual report on Victorian drinking water by the Department of Human Services which tabled in Parliament on Wednesday detailed two occasions of a test sample detecting E-coli in Seville in 2007, one in February and one in March.
Managing director Tony Kelly said Yarra Valley Water had in place a rigorous water quality monitoring system.
“We conduct twice weekly monitoring of water quality in the Seville area,” Mr Kelly said.
“Any detection is treated seriously and immediate action is taken to flush the water from the pipes and re-sample the broader area.”
He said the re-sampling results taken by Yarra Valley Water following the positive E-coli tests in 2007 were clear of any E-coli and increased monitoring over the next three months also proved to be clear.
“I can assure customers that we have undertaken extensive investigations into the water supply system and are confident that the quality of the water supply to Seville is safe to drink,” Mr Kelly said.
