BEN Chester smashed a 10 year course record to take our the Warburton Golf and Sporting Club championship.
More than 60 players competed on a course that was tough but in perfect condition over 72 holes over four weeks in October.
Apart from the third round, which was played in rain and hail, the weather treated the competitors kindly.
Chester won the Open Division and Club Champion for 2006 in an outstanding display of golf.
After a struggling 82 on the first Saturday, Chester came out on the second day with an amazing 65 to smash the course record.
The previous record of 68 had stood for more than 10 years.
Then to prove it was no fluke he equalled his new record on the last day.
If his last putt had not lipped out on the 18th, he would have broken it.
In a truly great performance his win ended the run of three club championships won in preceding years by Andrew Williams, who ran second.
‘B’ Grade for players with handicaps from 10 to 17 was won by Brendan Fitzpatrick and ‘C’ Grade, handicaps from 18 to 25, was won by Geoff Slater.
The title of Junior Champion for 2006 was won by Monty Lack.
The ‘Brawn Tour’ Shield for handicaps from 26 to 36 was won by Volde Levalds and the Easthills Cup, a nett event over the first three rounds was won by John Bognar.
