AWARD-WINNING director Adrian Carr will direct the Athenaeum Theatre’s next production Taking Steps.
Mr Carr is a regular on stage at the Athenaeum but it will be his first time in the director’s chair at the popular Lilydale theatre.
His direction of The Castle for Fab Nobs Theatre gained Mr Carr a Best Director Comedy award at the Lyrebird Awards in 2006 and he will again venture into comedy with Alan Ayckbourn’s English comedy-farce.
The play, set in an English manor, revolves around a group of people not to the manor born, all embroiled in a farcical merry mix-up tale of love, confusion and freedom, which takes place over the course of one evening.
Ayckbourn’s synopsis says it all: “An attic, a lounge, a wife in a quandary and a fiancee in a cupboard, a devious builder, a nervous solicitor, a ponderous personnel officer and a drunken bucket manufacturer all embroiled in a tale of love, confusion and freedom.”
There is plenty of scope in Taking Steps for Carr’s talent with comedy and plenty of laughs for the audience.
Taking Steps starts on 5 June with performances from Tuesday through to Saturday until 23 June, and a matinee on Sunday, 17 June.
To book phone the Athenaeum on 9735 1777.
