A DRAFT master plan for the Wandin North Recreation Reserve has been released for comment.
The plan, which was recently endorsed by the Shire of Yarra Ranges, includes recommendations for major improvements to the popular recreational area over the next five to 10 years.
The 4.5hectare park in Clegg Road, Wandin, serves a number of sporting clubs with an oval, tennis courts, a basketball court and cricket nets.
Its children’s playground and parkland also make it a popular community area.
Councillor Alan Fincher said the master plan was developed in response to a call from users to improve the sporting ground and amenities.
“The Wandin North Recreation Reserve Draft Master Plan is the result of feedback from tenants along with recommendations in council’s Open Space Strategy (1998),” Cr Fincher said.
“An extensive consultation process with reserve tenants and users, along with the distribution of 600 surveys to local residents, provided valuable feedback on local needs for the recreational reserve,” he said. “Further discussions were held with the Wandin Football Club to help develop a playground and decide its most suitable location in the reserve.”
The draft master plan suggests a number of improvements to the reserve, including a more defined entry and fencing, better access roads and carparks, traffic management improvements, a playground upgrade and improvements to the pavilion and public toilets.
The plan also recognises environmental issues in the area, with recommendations including retaining and protecting existing vegetation, formalising car parking areas to prevent erosion, and improving pathways to prevent erosion and enhance safety and access.
The draft master plan is on display for community comment at Shire of Yarra Ranges Community Links in Lilydale and Upwey and at the Wandin North Reserve Pavilion.
Submissions can be made in writing to Recreation Services, Shire of Yarra Ranges, PO Box 105, Lilydale 3140.
