THE Shire of Yarra Ranges is eagerly awaiting talks with the Victorian Department of Education and
An independent consultant’s report into the traffic management issues between Healesville Primary School and St Brigids Primary, jointly commissioned by DEET and the CEO last year, was delivered to the DEET on Friday, 10 March.
The report is expected to outline the need for, and cost of, additional parking spaces and works to widen the road between the schools which are located on top of a hill in High Street, Healesville.
A DEET spokeswoman said the department had met with representatives from the CEO on Thursday, 16 March, to discuss the report and hoped to resume discussions with the shire soon.
“The department is arranging to meet with the council as soon as possible to ensure the best and safest solution is reached,” she said.
The shire’s manager of community relations, James Martin, said a meeting with DEET and the CEO to reach a funding agreement for traffic management and parking upgrades had become a matter of urgency.
“We welcome any opportunity to meet with DEET and the CEO to discuss the report and the traffic management issues between the schools,” he said.
“We are hoping to see a willingness from DEET and the CEO to pursue what we think is a vital project.”
Over the past two years, parents from Healesville Primary School and St Brigids Primary School have campaigned for limited parking and unsafe road conditions to be addressed.
The Shire of Yarra Ranges has been working to secure a three-way funding deal with DEET and the CEO for the required works.
