Teams pitch in towards great cricke

HEALESVILLE Cricket Club’s Under 16 played Yarra Junction. Defending a rather poor total of 68 Healesville bowled and fielded well to dismiss Yarra Junction for 75.
Batting a second time was a better effort with them declaring at 4/89 in a vain attempt to get an outright. This was not to be as Yarra Junction also batted more resolutely in the second innings.
Under 14 A: Healesville bowled well early and had Yarra Junction in trouble at 4/26. They continued on with consistent bowling to have Yarra Junction all out for 89. Best players: D. Rogers 3/22, S. Watts 3/10, N. Wiles 3/8.
Under 14 B: Healesville batted well against Coldstream to compile their highest score for the season. Tim Swoboda and Jai Denby both made their best scores. Best players: T. Swoboda 24 not out, J. Denby 9, S. Darcy 6.
Under 12 B: Healesville White batted first and scored steadily throughout the innings to make 119. Harry Cowling top scored on 11 not out. Gruyere batted next and apart from an excellent innings by A. Waixel the wickets fell steadily. With improved bowling this weekend the extras were kept down. Special mention to Alex Grieve taking a spectacular catch. Best players: H. Cowling 11 not out, P. Sanders 6 and 2/9, E. Corken 2/8.
A good team effort saw Healesville Red bat the entire second day against Kinglake. The game was won in the second last over of the match. Best players: A. Crudas 20 ret., D. Crudas 16, D. Beverage 7.
Under 10: Healesville played Marysville and batted first. All batters performed extremely well not dropping a wicket. Congratulations to Patrick Sanders 19 not out and Shannon Maile 7 not out.
Marysville then batted and tried very hard but Healesville bowled very accurately restricting Marysville to 39 runs. Congratulations to Patrick Sanders, Shannon Maile and Lachlan McLean all taking two wickets a piece. Best players: Patrick Sander 19 not out and 2/4, Shannon Maile 7 not out and 2/8.
Healesville Red played Mt Evelyn, who won the toss and batted first. After a good opening partnership Healesville tightened up with some good bowling and three run outs, two of them to Ryan McCracken. Jasper Hammond took three for five runs and Dong Mon-Aphai two for 4 runs. Mt Evelyn ended up being all out for 64 runs after 24 overs. Mt Evelyn bowled really well and Healesville struggled in the run chase. With two overs to go Healesville needed 4 runs and just got there in the last over. Andrew McMahon top scored again with 9 not out. Dong Mon-Aphai made 5 not out. Best players: Jasper Hammond, Dong Mon-Aphai, Andrew McMahon, Ryan McCracken.
Warburton Millgrove Cricket Club
Strachan Shield: An extremely disappointing batting performance saw Warburton dismissed by Wandin for 96. L. Barnard 25 and T. McKail 22 were the top scorers. W. Ross bowled well capturing 5/39. In reply Wandin were 3/37 with A. Humphrey taking 2/8.
Strachan Shield Reseve: Superb bowling and fielding saw Warburton dismiss Seville for 138. D. Egan 4/56, A. Ireland 4/48 and N. Ingham 2/30 the wicket takers. However, in reply Warburton were struggling on 3/30.
Strachan Shield Reserve 3: Yarra Junction bowled very tightly and took some brilliant catches to dismiss Warburton for 111. D. Noorman 22 and C. Wylde 28 the top scorers. S. Thomas bowled very tightly capturing 6/18 in a magnificent effort. In reply, Yarra Juction are 3/92.
Under 14: Chasing a huge total of 771, Warburton started solidly with A. Calder and G. Morris combining beautifully with excellent running between the wickets. Every batsman tried their best as we edged towards Hoddles Creek’s total.
However, playing one batsman short Warburton were dismissed for 168 in an exciting finish. G. Morris top scored with 51 not out, A. Calder 42, D. Bills 15 and L. Smith 11 all batted well in a wonderful team effort. A. Tazzyman bowled well taking 4/22. C. Andrews captured 2/14 to provide great support.
Under 12: Mt Evelyn bowled and fielded superbly to dismiss Warburton for 71 in reply to their 86. B. Carr retired hurt 16 and L. Dainter-Bryan 13 both batted well. M. Moss 2/6 and J. Mosley 2/7 the best bowlers for Mt Evelyn.
Yarra Junction Cricket Club
Under 12 Gold: Yarra Junction began the day having already conceded first innings points to Yarra Glen, a side with six country week reps. However the team applied themselves well all day, and although well beaten on the scoreboard, received a valuable cricket lesson that bodes well for future seasons. Matt Cooper and Greg Ferguson took their first wickets of the season. Quinton Hodgkinson and Jonathan Cross bowled tight without success. Yarra Glen look likely Grand Finalists.
Under 12 B: Marysville resumed this week 0/20 chasing Yarra Junction’s 82. They passed Junction’s score easily and were all out 136. The bowlers did well and Junction dropped two catches. The pick of the bowlers were A. Bell 1/15, M. Shalcross 2/13, B. Aumann 2/11.
