Trail warm up
SHIRE of Yarra Ranges residents and visitors to the area are being invited to warm up for the Commonwealth Games this weekend.
Hike and Bike the Rail Trail is one of a number of community events organised by the Shire of Yarra Ranges in the lead up to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Hundreds of people are expected to walk, ride or simply meander along the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail this Sunday, 20 November.
Yarra Ranges mayor David Hodgett is inviting people of all ages to take part in the event which runs from 8.45am until 2pm at various points along the rail trail.
“Hike and Bike the Rail Trail will be a fantastic community event with loads of fun, entertainment and displays along the entire route of the trail,” Cr Hodgett said.
Registration for Hike and Bike the Rail Trail is free and can be made prior to the event with the first 500 registrations receiving a free Commonwealth Games souvenir pack.
Registration is also available on the day from any of the former stations along the trail or at Lillydale Lake between 8am and 9am.
For further information about Hike and Bike the Rail Trail, to obtain a registration form or find out more about the other events leading up to the Games, contact the shire’s Recreation Services Department on 1300 368 333.
