TV star entertains

UPPER Yarra social group, the Local Area Fun Friendship Fundraising (LAFFF) club, held a special community lunch last month with guest speaker, Denise Drysdale.
The group, which began earlier this year in Woori Yallock as a way for residents to build social networks, hosted the lunch at the Baptist Church Hall in Millgrove.
The group’s secretary, Pat Hole, said Ms Drysdale delighted the crowd of about 150 guests with stories of her childhood, her dreams of being a dancer, her career on television and her travels around the globe.
“Denise is such a wonderful, down to earth person and she entertained us all with her relaxed, natural storytelling,” she said.
“She had us all rolling in the aisles with stories about her career, but she also showed us sides of her life you don’t often get to see.”
Alongside the lunch and Ms Drysdale’s presentation, the event also featured a raffle and lucky door prize.
“It was a fun day and everyone had a great time. It’s great to have these sorts of events so people can come together and enjoy meeting new people and catching up with old friends,” Mrs Hole said.
She said the LAFFF club was a unique entity in the Upper Yarra.
“We meet on the fourth Monday of every month at the Woori Yallock Community House, from 10am to 12.30pm,” she said.
“Our members come from right along the Warburton Highway and membership is open to all ages and both men and women are welcome to join.”
Mrs Hole encouraged young mothers to consider joining the club.
“We are about sharing skills and learning from one another,” she said.
“We do craft activities, run stalls and play games, but the real emphasis is on socialising and building up social contacts,” she said.
